November 2006
Ottawa Trip

Hi Everyone,
This newsletter contains: Report with pictures from Ottawa trip

OTTAWA

A team of 10 of us went to Ottawa to the National House of Prayer from November 6 - 11. A lot of you sent in prayers and encouragements, and visions, scriptures and words from the Lord. We certainly felt carried...that this was not just about this team of 10, but all of you.

Tuomo and I visited Timbers Church the day before we left, and Pastor Ian Bennet used a clip from the movie, Lord of the Rings, for his message. It was so fitting. It was from the Fellowship of the Ring...when they realized the mission to deal with the ring and were waiting to see who was going to do the mission to take the ring to its destination. The dwarf tried to axe it but was thrown back violently. It was spoken that no craft of theirs could destroy the ring...it had to be thrown into the pit (I forget the name of the place).

Finally when they were all arguing etc. Frodo came forward and tried to say he would do it. They couldn't hear at first because of their arguing, but one by one they noticed and then one by one they said they would help in any way possible. A team of nine of the most unusal companions formed. Some did not even know what they were saying "yes" to. I thought, truly that is how the kingdom happens. God chooses the weak things, the foolish things, the not so noble, to do the task and that was our team. I felt God was saying, that you will fulfill your assignment...I have formed and called you for this.

Here are perspectives from some of the team members regarding our trip:

Peter Ziemer:
There were several things that were impacting for me on the Ottawa/NHOP trip... but I will just mention one of them. We met one evening at NHOP with Dick and Ann Harris [PG south], they came and met with the whole group of us that were there and shared their hearts with us and answered our questions. They told us about their children, were they live and what they are doing and also their real desire in been involved in politics, which was born out of a strong desire to make a difference by helping people. ... We had a good time together and I came away with a clear sense that Dick and Ann are real people with real hearts. - That helps me to pray for them because I feel I know them a little bit. We also met with Jay Hill [PG North] in his office in the center block at parliament hill, Jay is very busy because of the responsibilities he has but I was impressed by his genuine interest in us and his openness to tell us were he is at and the things nationally and provincially that are close to him. We also got to hear a bit about his family, his wife and his three children... you could easily see how he loves them :o)... so it was a real highlight and very helpful for me to know how to prayfor our MP's.

Gisele Goodwin:
What stood out for me was the way the Lord knit the hearts of the team from Pr. George as well as the teams from Ontario. The verse a three fold chord is not easily broken on Wednesday evening as we sought the Lord regarding the flag march. Some tense moments sensing the chord being tested but thanks to Rob's patience to wait on GOD, it withstood the test. I found it also interesting that the testing cam after such an annointed evening on Thuesday night as we presented Rob with the prayer shawl and prayed and released words over him. There was such a strong presence of the Lord and a release of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Certainly one of the highlights.

Some things that Rob shared on the first night about praying for the government that the Lord had showed him was to pray at the Gate of the nation. Starting at the top instead of at the bottom. Also he spoke about the broken covenants and the bloodshed that brings a curse on the land. Abortion was one of the things God put on my heart in a time of seeking him on Thursday a.m. Seeing an old man with his placards portaying abortion on Parliament HIll that same morning showed me how its very much on the Lord's heart as the song that came to me from "A Resting Place" --a verse says-- "who will hear the cry of my heart". I'm seeking the Lord about that and keeping my ears and eyes tuned.

There are many other highlights but I'll close here. Ottawa and the church in Canada is very blessed to have this National House of Prayer with such a dedicated couple leading it. God bless Richard Long (one of the NHOP staff). Really appreciated what he had to say.

Maureen Hudyma:
Thoughts on Ottawa trip: How to become a living vessel abiding as a House of Prayer was what impacted me the most during our stay in NHop. During the week, as we walked back & forth between Parliament and Nhop, seeing the weight of darkness over the nations' capitol, every fiber of my being came into a new grasp that only prayer/intercession and the Hand of God moving in our nation would break the darkness. The necessity of strategic revelation/ insight from the throneroom of God, the need to walk in unity in local church, inter-church or across the nation and the need to see who we are in Christ, that when He gives us revelation, we share, share and release the insights God has given through whatever vessel He chooses!

Watching the 3 distinct groups melting in one corporate group to press into prayer for the nation was very exciting, as it give me a picture of what the Lord is doing in every city, town and village across the nation. He is bring His Body together to form one man everywhere, and He is breathing the breath of life into the corporate man and relaeasing revelation continually. Seeing the willingness of each individual to nail themself to the cross for the purpose of accomplishing His assignment was awesome.

The following are pictures that Wanda Turski sent in:

Faytene Kryskow asked us if she could make a presentation to Dick Harris. She had given this to all the MP's, but Dick Harris had not received it. Perfect timing! This was a beautiful poem that is beneath this picture. Then you will see the plaque. Faytene spearheads a young adult movement in Canada called 4mycanada and can be seen at www.4mycanada.ca. This is based in Ottawa. This girl leads teams who go into parliament and share their hearts with the MP's about traditional moral values being upheld. Also they pray ferverently for our leaders and nation. She spearheaded, along with NHOP, The Cry on Parliament Hill - a huge rally of mostly young people on Parliament Hill July 15. She has written a book: Stand on Guard - a Prophetic Call and Research on the Righteous Foundations of Canada

When the last vote has been cast -
When the last statement has
been made - When everyone
has returned to the place from
where they came - When all I
have to look at is the face in the
mirror and the face of the
Amighty - May my conscience be
clean and sure - That I have left
this nation better than I found
it - When party politics pull - When
all that sways the soul of man comes
crashing in - May my conscience be
clean, knowing, before self and before
God -That I have stood and having
done all to stand - Cast my vote and -
Made my statement, knowing, this is
not my land -- KNOWING -- I have
been given a trust from God
and my fellow Canadian --
KNOWING -- I have been handed
an inheritance from generations
past -- KNOWING -- I will hand
this nation to my children and
theirs -- KNOWING -- I am
accountable to all of the
above - Past, future and the
Eternal One - When all is
said and done - May I not
merely net the empty
accolades of man -
But the privilege of
knowing, before self
and before God ,
that I have left this
nation better
than I found it.

Marja Kostamo:
It was quite an experience being in Question Period two times that week. We sat in the gallery and listened and prayed. The second time we were seated up right across from the Conservative Party and Prime Minister Stephen Harper. We listened and prayed quietly. The first day, Heather Mullen, Monica Prescott, Connie Thompson and a couple of the others from Red Deer sat in front of us. Monica and Connie have ministered here in PG. It is good to see that many from all over Canada are coming faithfully to Parliament to pray.

At the NHOP we did quite intense praying together as three teams, one from Kitchener/Waterloo, one from Brantford, and our team. We prayed intensely for Afganistan one evening...we are called to be a healing to the nations. We presented the healing tallith, which God directed us to give to NHOP. It has healing scriptures on the four corners...God seemed to be directing to give this as the call of Canada is to be a healing to the nations. Also, it is for the breaking out of signs and wonders in our nation. BC's flag has the rising sun on it. Since we are from BC, we felt this was significant as one of the scriptures is: "But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness rise with healing in its wings and you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall." Malachi 4:2

Another highlight was the prayer meeting right in the Parliament Buildings. It takes place weekly on Fridays from 1:15 - 3:00pm. It is a beautiful, comfortable room. Ususally Rob and Fran lead it, but they left to Nova Scotia to minister, so Joy Moffat (original from PG...from the Moffat family) led it. She is a seasoned prophetic intercessor. Also the wife of one of the parliamentarians attends faithfully...she also has attended a lot of the Watchmen Gatherings.

Jack Murta, a former MP, came and spoke to us one morning. He was involved for 17 years and then grew tired of the political scene and moved back to the prairies, but a couple of years ago, the Lord literally called him back to form a Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast, which meets weekly. The week we were there, around 28 were present at the breakfast. And once a year they do a National Prayer Breakfast with around 600 attendees. He also leads an alpha group for ambassadors. He also volunteers at a mission that feeds 1000 people a day. He shared so well encouraging us to pray for the hearts of the MP's. He said that when the Holy Spirit touches the hearts, they will be led to do what God wants them to. Through prayer God can affect a change of heart. God has a plan...it may not be the plan of the person praying, so ask God to direct their hearts.

One funny incident was told to us by the Scottish interns. They said the Friday evening before we came, Doug and Michelle, the house parents of NHOP went to a video store to rent a video. Michelle stayed in the car and noticed security vehicles in the parking lot and thought there must be a drug bust or some sting operation happening. Meanwhile, her husband was in line to pay for the videos and the check out girl suddenly became very nervous and agitated. He was wondering what was going on. He turned around and there was Prime Minister Stephen Harper in the line behind him with his two children. Doug said "Hello, Mr Harper." and offered him to go before him. However, PM Stephen said "No thank you, we can wait our turn."

What God did for me, was make parliament personal...I saw real people with real families...trying to help somehow, and we need to pray for their hearts. I am very thankful for this experience and for the team that went.

God bless,
Marja
